Nature is at the heart of mountain biking. It is one of the factors that makes mountain biking truly exceptional - we get to spend time in nature whilst having fun! As mountain bikers we explore and are closer to nature than most people, thus we also feel the need to protect it.
We don't claim to be perfect, but we're taking steps everyday to minimise our impact and to create products and a conscious working environment where we make choices to select sustainable fabric technology and constantly look for opportunities to do more.
Here's a look at some of the actions we're taking.
All of our jerseys this season are made from recycled fabric.
It takes about 9 bottles to make one jersey. All of our recycled polyester fibers are made from 100% post-consumer plastic bottles and they’re GRS Certified (Global Recycling Standard).
Our Gravity Shorts and Pants are made using BLUESIGN approved fabric technology.
BLUESIGN is a system that provides safer and more sustainable environments for people to work in and everyone to live in. BLUESIGN traces each textile’s path along the manufacturing process, making improvements at every stage from factory floor to finished product. BLUESIGN changes the environmental impact of textiles for good.
BLUESIGN Approved identifies products that have been manufactured with the highest degree of safety for the consumer and the lowest possible impact on people and the environment.
Used in our Tech Tees, Tanks and Long Sleeve Tech Tees - drirelease is a US-patented fabric technology which keep you cool, dry, fresh and comfortable. It looks and feels like a cotton t-shirt but with exceptional technical properties.
The brilliance of DR fabrics is the engineered combination of hydrophobic and hydrophilic fibers that allow them to engage with moisture naturally to dramatically improve how wetness is pulled from the skin and released into the air. A lot of fabrics use a chemical finish to claim they are "quick drying", where as the drirelease fabric naturally produces this effect built into the fibers.
Because the technical properties of drirelease fabrics is not from chemical finishes, it means the fabric is a lot better for the environment and the end user. The technical benefits are also permanent, ie: it will not wash out over time, so it lasts longer and means less consumption.
Over 95% of our collection now comes delivered in biodegradable polybags, meaning they'll be around for a good time, not a long time.
Our online orders get shipped in compostable courier satchels, which behave just like a plastic satchel - except when left in nature!
In a home compost they biodegrade in 3-6 months. They're waterproof and strong. Better. Right.
Just make sure you put them in the compost and not the bin for full effect!
